Free Style Motocross which is also popularly referred to as FMX, involves motorcycle riders making several attempts to impress the judges and out win each other with stunts and jumps. The main types are Big air and Free style motocross; which is the older of the two. In Big air, the rider makes three jumps that cover more than 60 feet from a ramp that is covered with dirt. A set of ten judges critically access the trick, style, use of course and give a score based on a 100 points. The rider with the highest score wins the competition. Free Style involves multiple jumps of several angles and lengths that last between 90 seconds and fourteen minutes. Successful free riders have to make effective use of good combination of skills and strong mental ability. Important free style events include the X-Games, Night of the Jump, Gravity games, Big X and a whole lot more. Popular free landing locations around the world include; California, Texas, Utah, Beaumont and Carville. FMX riders make use of goggles, boots, helmets, gloves, jersey and MX pants. This may include elbow and knee pads. Riders make use of well modified motocross bikes for the competition. The tricks involved in free style motocross are of various degrees of difficulty which range from several styles of back flip to kamakazie flip, 360 flip, front flip, body varial ( most difficult), Cliff hanger, Double grab, Fender grab and so many others.
